On August 17, 2024 members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in West Africa came together to perform acts of service in their communities in the annual All Africa Service Day program of the Church. The program in its 18th year, provides members of the Church with the opportunity to volunteer thousands of man-hours in service to their communities.
This year, members in twelve countries in the area participated in the exercise along with government agencies and non-members. Some of the service projects included conducting blood donation campaigns, visits to and donations to orphanages, painting, pothole filling, desilting of gutters, weeding and cleaning at schools, health centres markets and along roads. Over Seventy-five thousand man-hours of service was rendered with Hundreds of pints of blood donated to various hospitals and blood banks.
Thanking the Church for the annual event, Mr. Adewunmi Adesina, Director for Advocacy for the state’s waste management authority stated, ‘’We are grateful to the Church for collaborating with us each year in helping to keep Lagos clean. We are open to collaborating with you on other projects that would help provide a cleaner and healthier environment for our people’’.
