Burundi Prime Minister Meets with Leaders of the Africa Central Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

“Our first mission is to help people come to Jesus Christ.“

Elder Paul B. Pieper, second counselor in the Africa Central Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, together with a delegation of other Church leaders, met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Burundi, Gervais Ndirakobuca, on 12 October 2023 in Bujumbura, Burundi.

Elder Pieper expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for the support of the Burundian government for the Church to operate fully in Burundi. He also mentioned that the Church works in other areas in addition to teaching of the word of God. He pointed out the Church’s efforts in the humanitarian field, before saying that Church members are committed to respecting the country's directives and to supporting the country's development programs for its people.

Christian Mavinga, President of the Rwanda Kigali Mission, which includes Rwanda, Burundi and part of eastern DR Congo mission based in Kigali Rwanda, added that such exchanges will continue to clearly define the key areas of need to help the Church best focus its humanitarian service projects.

“Our first mission is to help people come to Jesus Christ," he added. "We came to share with the Prime Minister our ministry of not only teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but also teaching self-reliance programs to help people take care of themselves. Of course, the Church also donates to many humanitarian works."
