Brian K. Ashton, President of BYU-Pathway Worldwide, led a delegation of senior BYU-Pathway leadership to kick off opening sessions of the Pathway Connect semester at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Institute buildings near the National Pedagogical University (UPN) and University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo on October 31, 2023. They also visited four EnglishConnect evening classes held at the Kinshasa Stake Center.
BYU-Pathway Worldwide provides access to spiritually-based degrees completely online at an affordable price. Tuition costs significantly less than other schools. Degrees are online, from anywhere in the world. BYU-Pathway builds hope and spiritual confidence. It is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is open to students from all religious faiths.
President Ashton was accompanied by Rory Bigelow, Associate Administrator for Seminaries and Institutes of Religion, Todd Miner, BYU-Pathway Worldwide Vice President for Field Operations, Tasara Makasi, BYU-Pathway Area Manager for Africa Central and South Areas, and local leadership and BYU Pathway missionaries.
President Ashton taught, “Jesus Christ loves you. He wants you to have all His blessings. He wants even better things for you than you want for yourselves.” He continued, “God knows your needs and you are His children.”
Rory Bigelow shared his experiences learning a foreign language for missionary service. “God helped me learn Spanish and Portuguese,” he said. “I promise God will help you learn English. This will bring blessings to you and your family.”
Todd Miner, who recently completed a three-year term as mission leader in Cameroon, encouraged students to find ways to serve. “We are here to help others and to serve Jesus Christ.”
Tasara Makasi bore testimony to the students, “the Lord will bless you if you make the effort. He knows you very well and He will help you.”
Several students shared their feelings about BYU-Pathway. Tresor Kalambayi, who is studying Information Technology, said, “BYU-Pathway has changed my life in many ways. After returning from my mission, other educational options lacked a religious environment. BYU-Pathway helps me stay connected to Jesus Christ and remain His disciple. I testify that my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ has increased, and that education has given me more confidence and strength to learn.”

BYU-Pathway Worldwide was created to serve online students. Degrees are awarded by BYU-Idaho and Ensign College, while BYU-Pathway provides the resources to help students succeed. Currently more than 60,000 students participate in over 180 countries worldwide.
