BYU-Pathways Worldwide Holds Certificate Completion Ceremony in Liberia

75 students honored at ceremony in Monrovia

On 11 May 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a completion ceremony for graduates of the BYU-Pathways certificate program in Monrovia, Liberia. The ceremony took place at the Monrovia Liberia Stake Center of the Church.  75 students received certificates in several disciplines.

Presiding over the ceremony was President D. Blamo Kofa, from the presidency of the Monrovia, Liberia Mission of the Church.  President Kofa is also the Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Compliance and Enforcement at the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

Also in attendance was Dr Victor Ukorebi, International Area Manager, BYU-Pathway Worldwide and Francis Akpor, Pathway Area Manager, West Africa.  Joining them was Jean Marius Yao, CEO, Orange GSM Liberia, and Local Pathway Missionaries.

In his keynote address to graduates of the BYU Pathway online certificate program, President Kofa admonished the students to become agents of positive change in their country.

" I entreat you graduates to use your world class and high-quality education from the best professors in their respective fields of speciality to not only transform your society but more importantly, to transform yourselves to become valuable and treasured employees.  Also, you can now prepare yourselves to build businesses and become employers too," he said.

According to President Kofa, BYU, unlike other universities, does not only provide quality education, but prepares its students to become lights in their societies, and become productive and successful citizens and job creators, and that is the net effect of what quality education should entail.

Dr Ukorebi highlighted the transformative power of BYU-Pathway Worldwide education in his remarks.  “The Pathways program prepares students to become natural leaders.  I admonish you to use your newfound knowledge to not only improve yourselves, but also to serve others,” he said.

This is the second graduation ceremony for BYU-Pathway Worldwide students in Liberia.  The Pathway program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints improves lives through access to spiritually based, online affordable higher education.  Its mission is to develop disciples of Jesus Christ who are leaders in their homes, the Church, and their communities.
