Church Joins with "Water for People" NGO to Provide Two Uganda Schools with New Restroom Facilities

Uganda Schools Receive New Restroom Facilities

The Nyenje Church of Uganda primary school, and the Bishop East primary school in Mukono, Uganda, each received 10 blocks of climate resilient, gender inclusive sanitation facilities, handwashing stations, and incinerators on June 5, 2025.

The schools had a limited number of facilities serving their large student populations, which were clearly inadequate, making it difficult for the learning experience of the students at school.

“These structures have given the school a facelift. The girls have got a washroom with latrines and an incinerator, which is one of the prerequisites supposed to be in schools. This will help improve children’s health, and eventually their grades, as a healthy mind lives in a healthy body.”  Said the head teacher of Nyenje C/U primary school.

A spokesperson on behalf of the country director, Brenda Aciiro, Water for People, stated, “We hope that these facilities with a component of health, hygiene, and management, will keep the girl child in school and ensure that there is a reduced rate of absenteeism, and help the girls finish school.”

“The weather resilient washrooms represent a new era of possibilities for the learners and community, which will provide the learners with a better learning environment.”  Stated the head teacher of Bishop East Primary School.

In attendance for the handover were members of the non-governmental organization - Water for People, the staff and students of Nyenje Church of Uganda primary school Mukono,  President Frederick Kyambadde of the Kampala Uganda North stake, Mbawaire Dinah, Communications Director Uganda, the staff, parents and students of Bishop East primary school Mukono, head teachers from various schools in Mukono, and leaders from Mukono district local government.
