Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kamuli district government officials, school administrators of Yana Community High School, Orion Primary School and other local community leaders assembled to inspect a new pipe water supply system that will provide water to both schools and to the Wandegeya Trading Centre. Six stanza toilets for each of the schools are also being constructed for the girl students.

Currently, fresh water is scarce in the communities served by these schools, making it difficult for families and institutions to have access to adequate water supply, thus accelerating poor sanitation and poor hygiene practices within the area. Upon project completion, water supply in the area will be adequate and the new sanitation facilities will aid in the promotion of safe, sound sanitation and hygienic practices.
The pipe water system and toilet facility construction is being funded by and overseen by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The project contractor, Water Aid, is working toward completing the pipe water system and toilets by the end of September 2023. Great benefit will come to the children in the two schools and to the people in the surrounding communities after construction is finished.
This project includes the following:
- Construction of a six stanza toilet block at Yana Community High School for use by girl children.
- Construction of a six stanza toilet block at Orion Primary School for use by girl children.
- Construction of a pipe water system to serve both schools, the Wandegeya Trading Centre and nearby villages.
Kamuli District Vice Chairperson Sarah Sambya thanked The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its significant investment to improve the lives of people in the Kamuli district. She expressed appreciation to the Church for making the health and well-being of children and families in the area a high priority. She emphasized that the Church’s significant contribution will benefit the people of Kamuli who are struggling to access safe and clean water.
Kamuli Resident District Commissioner Birungi Rose also thanked the Church for addressing such a significant need of the people in the Kamuli District. She added that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a true church because the faith of its members is accompanied by beneficial action.
Rose affirmed that the wellness of human beings is both a physical and spiritual need. She invited the Church to share the gospel within the Kamuli District as she is a witness to the positive impact of the Church in the community.
The Jinja Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is led by Stake President Mbiro Moses. He spoke to the gathered dignitaries and said the Church is always doing its best to provide assistance according to need and available resources. He added that the Church would love to respond to every cause, but it has limited resources, and that is why it responds to the most demanding needs. This has been the Church’s approach around the world and in Africa. The Church strives to deploy its resources and engage its members in doing as much as it can to improve the lives of many.
President Moses commented that members of the Church pray that the almighty avails us with more abilities to always be of service to people, because the vital, common thing we all share is that we are all children of God.
