Church Launches Primary School Construction Projects in Uganda in the Wake of Destructive Storms

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, school administrators, and community leaders broke ground for new school buildings in Buyanga and Buwagi Uganda on 30 November and 2 December 2022 following destructive rainstorms earlier in the year. These new buildings will provide upgraded classrooms, computer centers, kitchens, and sanitary facilities for primary school children.

Two local construction firms are scheduled to complete the work within four months, in time for students to use the new classrooms in the late spring of 2023.

This project includes the following:

  • Buyanga Primary School will receive three large classrooms of 54 desks each, two medium size classrooms of 18 desks each, and computer lab, kitchen, water tanks, and restroom facilities.
  • Dhakaba Memorial Primary School will get three large classrooms of 54 desks each, new restrooms for students and teachers, a water tank, and kitchen.
  • Buwagi Primary School will receive three new classrooms, two water tanks, and a restroom.

Buwagi District Chairman Muziransa Shafi praised how quickly these projects were approved and implemented. “Even the government could not have responded in such a short time period as the Church has done,” he said. “The people extend their consideration, love, and wishes for prosperity to Church members who contributed to this project”.

Jinja North Division Mayor Wabika Ayub thanked the Church for its “wonderful” and “amazing” humanitarian work. He added his gratitude for the rapid Church responses toward recent challenges facing his community.

Jinja Stake President Mbiro Moses said the Church prioritizes the wellbeing of everyone irrespective of individual differences such as religion, age, background, and ethnicity. He declared that the Lord loves and cares for all His children in the wake of tragedies such as those caused by the heavy rains.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has completed or initiated more than 70 humanitarian projects across central Africa in 2022.
