Church of Jesus Christ ‘Lights the World’ in Nsit Ubium

Donates food items to vulnerable families

The annual ‘Light the World’ campaign of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nigeria was launched on 4th December 2024, in Nsit Ubium, Akwa Ibom State. with the distribution of food Items to vulnerable families across various villages in the area.

The event which was held at Qua Iboe Church Central School, Ikot Ubo, had over 200 recipients, including widows, orphans, and their families, were provided with essential food items including rice, beans, vegetable oil, garri, yam, noodles, beverages, onions, and tin tomatoes etc.


Elder Enefiok Ntem, an Area 70 in the Africa West Area of the church who presided over the event pointed out that the program was planned in the venue for the rest of Nigeria; that the initiative aimed at enabling members of the community participate in  commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ during the Christmas season by spreading His message of light and love through acts of service. “The Savior, Jesus Christ, came into this world to bring relief, peace, and joy,” said Elder Ntem. “Because we want to emulate Him, we are encouraged to do all we can to lighten the burdens of others so that they may experience His peace.” He thanked the community for allowing the Church perform her Christian duties.

The event attracted traditional leaders, including HRH Etebom Ukpong Noah Etokakpan Udoewa, the Clan Head of Ubium Clan, as well as political figures, Hon. Aniefiok Thomson former deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State, religious leaders, Bishop Abbah from the Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN), and local residents who expressed their happiness and appreciation for such benevolence from a church.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Elder Israel Elijah Udobre, a native of Oruk Anam local government area and a member of the Qua Iboe Church, expressed immense joy upon receiving the items, adding that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had truly exemplified the love and grace of Christ in their community.
His Royal Highness Etebom Ukpong Noah Udoewah (JP) , Clan Head of Ubium, who played a significant role in the coordination of members of his community appreciated the church on behalf of the members of his community for the laudable initiative. In his words " the community has never seen this kind of palliative before". He assured that he is ready to partner with the church anytime they want to do any project in his community.
He also appealed to the church to convert the stream in his community where it was recorded that the first set mass baptisms for the Church in Nigeria took place in 1978 to a tourist centre.
