On Friday, August 11, 2023, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Nairobi Kenya.
Africa Central Area President Elder Ian S. Ardern signed on behalf of the Church and Sheikh Abdirahman Ismail, OGW, the Executive Director of the Inter-religious Council of Kenya, signed on behalf of the IRCK. In attendance were Elder Paul P. Pieper, Second Counselor in the Area Presidency, David Stanford the Area Legal Counsel, and Claudine Isekusu the Area Communication Director.
The purpose of this MoU is to formalize the relationship between the IRCK and the Church in Kenya in the areas of interfaith unity and disaster management. The agreement provides a broad framework for cooperation and engagement between the two organizations in the support of communities in need.
Speaking at the event, Africa Central Area President Elder Ian S. Ardern noted, “It is wonderful to be part of the Inter-faith Religious Council of Kenya. What we have in common with other faiths is much more significant than our differences. Together, we hope to make a difference in the lives of others.”
