Church of Jesus Christ Welcomes Traditional Leaders to the Uyo Nigeria Stake Conference

Paramount Rulers of the Uyo and Uruan Local Government Areas meet with Church leaders

On 26 November 2023, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uyo Nigeria welcomed traditional leaders from throughout the Akwa Ibom State in Southeastern Nigeria.  The traditional leaders, accompanied by their wives, attended the Stake Conference of the Uyo Nigeria Stake and met with Church leaders at the conclusion of the conference.

Attending the conference was His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus E. Okon, Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State accompanied by his wife Obongawan Idongesit Sylvanus Okon.

Church leaders also welcomed His Royal Majesty, Edidem Atakpo IV, Rt Hon Cosmas Bassey Nkanga, Paramount Ruler, Uruan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, accompanied by his wife Obongawan Aniebiet Nkanga.

Other traditional leaders attending the conference were, Obong Idung, William Etim Udobot, the Village Head of Ibiaku lssiet, Obong (Elder) Ben Bassey John, Eteidung of Ewet Offot, His Royal Highness Edidem, Godwin Obong Ekpenyong Ikotidem, the Village Chief of Utit Urua, Obong Effiong Essien the Village Chief of Eman Uruan, Etteidung Godwin Okoho, the Village head of Idu village.

Elder I. Raymond Egbo an Area Seventy for the Church, presided over the conference, accompanied by the Uyo Nigeria Mission Leaders, President Daniel Abeo and Sister Evelyn Abeo. The traditional leaders were welcomed by President Adiel Ntuk of the Uyo Nigeria Stake.

The theme of the conference was ‘Let God Prevail’ and the congregation heard counsel from leaders of the stake.  During the conference 26 prospective Elders were given the Melchizedek priesthood and ordained to the office of Elder. 

The Royal Fathers, expressing joy and appreciation, extended an invitation to collaborate further with the Church.

HRM, Edidem Atakpo IV requested “If the Church can move to my domain, I will be very happy to fully cooperate, please come immediately.”

Chief Ikotidem Asuquo, the village Head of Utit Uruan shared “I am highly impressed with the high level of commitment and reverence, in the way you worship God and the orderly conduct of your service. The conference is very enlightening.”  

Elder Dominic Ebong, the Secretary of the village council of Ewet Offot, said “I love the method of teaching and how those children were bold to address the audience”.

Etteidung Obong Francis Effiong Essien declared, “I appreciate how you teach with understanding, as I read through the Book of Mormon, I discovered that the Book of Mormon testifies of the Holy Bible and the life of Jesus Christ the Son of God”.
