Churches Celebrate Jesus Christ at Interfaith Easter Concert in Kinshasa

Three Church Choirs Come Together to Celebrate Easter with Music, Unity, and Friendship

An interfaith Easter concert was held in Kinshasa on May 17, 2024, in the cultural hall of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kinshasa Stake under the theme “Thanks to Jesus Christ, I can”. This concert brought together choirs from different religious communities, celebrating together the resurrection of Christ in a spirit of unity and shared faith. This event follows that organized in December 2023 to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, consolidating a tradition of interfaith spiritual meetings.

The choirs 7 Trumpets from the Presbyterian Community and Grace from the Methodist Church took turns singing their songs celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The multi-stake Light the World choir, representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, under the direction of Brother Claude Kasonga wa Kasonga, closed this series of performances by performing the hymns “That Easter Morning “, “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today”, “Jesus I Love You”, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty ”, “Master the Tempest is Raging Spears”, “Battle Hymn” and “Rejoice, the Lord Is King!” accompanied by a recital taken from the scriptures retracing the significant events of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.

An Invitation to Unity and Faith

This interfaith Easter ceremony was a vibrant testimony to the possible unity between the different Christian denominations. Reverend Kinyamba, Secretary General of the National Council of Religions for Peace in DR Congo said: “despite doctrinal differences, the love of Christ and the celebration of his resurrection can bring believers together in one voice.”  He then pledged to invite all other Christian churches to join in this celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and expressed the wish to see the choir of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints come perform among other congregations.

Reverend Astrid Ntumba of the Presbyterian community expressed her gratitude for this evening. She said, “Thank you for this beautiful moment. My heart was blessed by these wonderful songs. I would be happy to come back to witness to Christ with you.”

The event laid the foundation for future collaborations between these communities, paving the way for better understanding and closer cooperation.
