Meet Pythagore Matubu from the Democratic Republic of Congo, he works as an accountant and administrative manager in Kinshasa, the country’s capital city. He is joining The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square this October for the worldwide General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as one of the Choir’s 12 Global Participants.
“The people here are very kind, very open and you feel the spirit everywhere you go. On Sunday we participated in our first rehearsal with the Tabernacle Choir, and it was just, wow! The spirit is felt during these moments, the way they sing is something new for me. We are used to singing differently but this experience with them has changed my way of seeing music. It is a wonderful experience; I felt peace and love in their way of singing.
Pythagore has a certificate of music theory and piano from the National Institute of Arts Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. Music is his life and hobby. He spends his time teaching piano and leading local choirs when he is not serving in the Church and Temple.
Pythagore was invited to audition as a guest member of the Choir for the October 2025 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was put through a rigorous audition process of singing, vocal exercises testing his range and sight reading. He considers himself a fast learner, which was a great asset during the audition. To his joy, he was selected.
“The experience is truly a spiritual one, it is not just about music. We add to our talents and faith so that our songs, heard by the whole world, can bring consolation and joy in the hearts of the people. We preach through our songs”, he said.
Pythagore has enjoyed his visit to Salt Lake City, sharing the experience with the other global participants from the four corners of the world.
“We were set apart on Sunday as musical missionaries assigned to the tabernacle choir, at the beginning of the program we were called global participants but now we have learned that this has changed, we have become standing global members of the tabernacle choir, what a joy for me”, he said.

“There is a lot of excitement among my family, my wife and my children. I was selected in 2023, and I was just waiting to come. Finally, when my visa was approved, it was joy, it was a party at home. Dad will finally go and sing, we will watch him at the conference on TV. It was a very, very beautiful experience. They are very excited at home”, he said with a broad smile.
