Elder Mutombo Teaches Church Members and Community Leaders at Katuba Stake Conference in Lubumbashi DR Congo

Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, first counselor in the Africa Central Area presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, traveled to Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, to preside over the semiannual Katuba Stake conference on March 23-24, 2024. Elder Mutombo was accompanied by Stake President Emery Kazadi and his counselors.

Members of the Katuba Stake heard many inspired teachings and counsel from their priesthood leaders over the course of two days.

At a special meeting for young adults ages 18 to 25, they were encouraged to prepare to serve full-time missions. They were counseled to work with their parents and their bishops to accomplish this. During a meeting for adults, several speakers spoke of hope in Jesus Christ which allows us to gain eternal life and the ability to overcome trials by being faithful to temple covenants.

On Sunday, President Emery Kazadi spoke about how repentance qualifies us to be true disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Sister Mundundu spoke about the temple which strengthens the sisters in Zion. Elder Mutombo talked about the importance of keeping the law of tithing, no matter how poor we are. If we are faithful to this commandment, the Lord has promised that He will open the windows of heaven of blessings.

Leaders taught members to be of service to their fellow human beings and help them out of love rather than of duty. The also instructed members that taking the Sacrament each Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to become closer to God.

After the meeting, Elder Mutombo and other Church leaders met with several key local opinion leaders, including the district mayor and his delegation, head of the Katuba district office, and president of ONG Kenya and his deputy accompanied by his entire family.
