Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, November 25–26, 2024—The Ministry of Peace hosted the Continental Conference on Peace, Prosperity, and Development under the theme “Peace for a Prosperous Africa.” Leaders, organizations, and humanitarian representatives convened to address challenges and explore strategies for sustainable growth across the continent.

Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, stressed the critical link between peace and development, stating,

“Peace is not merely an absence of conflict. Silencing the guns is important because there will be no development without peace. Peace, stability, and security are critical ingredients for achieving sustainable development goals.”

His Excellency Taye Atske Selassie, President of Ethiopia, highlighted Africa’s strategic importance and challenges, saying,

“Africa, one of the vital geostrategic regions, is experiencing the force of war, yet it is a continent with developed norms and robust peace and security frameworks. This renewed commitment challenges the geopolitical landscape and calls for preparedness through anticipatory mechanisms, robust security forces, and innovative strategies.”
