Her Excellency The First Lady of The Republic of The Gambia, Madam Fatoumatta Bah- Barrow on Friday, 3rd October, 2025 visited church members in Brusubi in The Gambia to commiserate with the saints there on the passing away of our beloved Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson.
President Russell M. Nelson, the 17th Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints passed away at the age of 101 on Saturday, 27th September, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

Her Excellency had met the Prophet and knew him personally. She expressed: “I am here today with my delegation to offer our condolences and the condolences of our families and our people to you, our dear friends, brothers and sisters who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints in The Gambia, and to all the leaders and members of your church worldwide, for the loss of such a great man of God who the Almighty God has blessed to live to such a great age. Your loss is our loss. Regardless of whatever religion we belong to, we are all created by the Almighty God. We are a family, one big family. With the passing of President Russell M. Nelson, the world has lost a great man of great faith, a true man of God, and a great teacher. He taught love, kindness, forgiveness, peace and compassion by example. We are grateful for his inspiring life and spirituality. We will miss him and the world will miss him. Meeting him in person in 2023 when I visited your church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah , USA was a privilege and a great blessing.

“We pray for the family of President Nelson that The Almighty God will comfort and strengthen them. It is my humble prayer that the Almighty God will comfort and strengthen his dear family and the entire membership of this great church.”
The First Lady was accompanied by the Honourable Regional Governor of the West Coast Region, Mr. Ousman Bojang, Ms. Juldeh Bah, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, and by executives of the Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow Foundation (FaBB, a foundation she established focused on protecting and empowering women and children), including Ambassador Zeinab Muhammed (Board Member), Mr Salieu Bah (Board Member), Mr. Modou Faal, and Mr Addourahman, both also of FaBB.
The First Lady and her delegation were received on arrival at the Brusubi Meetinghouse at Brusubi in The Gambia by President Samuel Owusu Amako, President of the Brusubi Branch and the National Communications Director of The Church in The Gambia. Present also were President Albert Alexander, President of the Kanifing Branch, auxiliary leaders of the two branches of The Church in The Gambia, Senior Couple Missionaries Elder and Sister Roberts, full time missionaries, and a section of the members of The Church in The Gambia.
President Amako thanked the First Lady and her delegation for their love and kindness for their visit and for commiserating with the members on behalf of the entire global membership of The Church on the loss of our beloved Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson.
