Four New Area Seventies Named in the Africa West Area

New Seventies Sustained During April 2024 General Conference

During the April 2024 General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, four new Area Seventies were named in the Africa West Area of the Church.  Daniel A. Abeo, Michel D. Avegnon, Sancho N. Chukwu, and Asuquo E. Udobong were called and sustained as members of the Third Quorum of Seventies.

Released as Area Seventies were Elder Solomon Aliche, Elder I. Raymond Egbo, Elder D. Martin Goury, and Elder Anthony Kaku.  Elder Egbo and Elder Goury were called as General Authority Seventies, and Elder Kaku was called as the President of the Accra Ghana Temple.

Elder Daniel A. Abeo has served in a number of Church callings, including high councilor, bishop, stake president, and president of the Nigeria Uyo Mission.

Elder Abeo became a certified technician in electrical engineering at Tamale Polytechnic in 1988 and received a diploma in management travels from the College of Professional Management in 1998.  He earned a bachelor of science degree in finance administration in 2012 and a law degree in 2018, both from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology .  He worked as a marketing executive for M&J Travels ltd. From 1994-1996, a sales supervisor for Marina Travel Tours from 1996-1999, and a corporate fleet manager for Hertz International from 1999 to 2004.  From 2004-2021 he worked for the Church in the Africa West Area as a travel coordinator, travel supervisor, and area travel manager.

Daniel Ankonu Abeo was born in Accra Ghana on 27 April 1966.  He married Evelyn Abla Dzikunu in 1995.  They are the parents of four children.  Elder and Sister Abeo reside in Uyo, Nigeria.

Elder Michel D. Avegnon has served in many Church callings. He served as a full-time missionary in the Ghana Accra Mission, high councilor, branch president, bishop, and stake president.

Elder Avegnon earned a language study certificate in 1999 and in 2018 he received a bachelor of art degree in psychology and sociology, both from the Centre International de Recherche et d’etude de lanues.  He has worked as an entrepreneuer and CEO since 1997, operating several companies, including Smave Company, Stop Thirst Ghana, Smave International-SL, Smave-Togo Sarl-Togo and Benin, and Smave West Africa Ltd.

Michel Djimedo Avegnon was born in Atitogon, Togo, on 15 August 1969. He married Susana Laryea-Akrong in 2000.  They are the parents of four children.  Elder and Sister Avegnon reside in Accra, Ghana.

Elder Sancho N. Chukwu has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Aba Nigeria Mission, bishop, high councilor, member of a stake presidency, and stake president.

Elder Chukwu received a bachelor of science degree in accountancy form the Rivers State University of Science in 1996. He earned a postgraduate diploma in 2008, a master of science degree in 2011, and a doctorate degree in 2015, all in economics from the University of Port Harcourt.  He has worked as a wages clerk and personnel manager of PGH Ltd, and as an assistant lecturer at Imo State University.  Since 2015 he has worked for Rivers State University in a variety of positions including lecturer, senior lecturer, and professor of economics.

Sancho Nwobuisi Chukwu was born in Jos, Nigeria, on August 12, 1964.  He married Victoria Chizia Wikpe in 1994.  They are the parents of eight children.  Elder and Sister Chukwu reside in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Elder Asuquo E. Udobong has served as a full-time missionary in the Nigeria Enugu Mission, high councilor, bishop, and stake president.

Elder Udobong received a diploma in 2003, and a bachelor of education degree in 2007, both from the University of Calabar.  In 2001, he earned a certificate from BYU PathwayConnect. He worked as a clerical assistant for the Civil Service Commission from 2000-2006.  Since 2006 he has worked for the Church in Seminaries and Institutes as a support specialist, coordinator, and on-line director.

Asuquo Edim Udobong was born in Calabar, Nigeria, on 24 November 1976.  He married Laura Lawrence Ekpezu in 2006.  Elder and Sister Udobong reside in Ado-Odo Ota, Nigeria.
