Fruit Tree Seedling Donations Benefit Kenyans

170,000 seedlings donated

A parliamentary initiative in Kenya hopes to increase forest cover, curb deforestation, improve food security and mitigate against effects of climate change. Taking part in the initiative in Kenya, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 170,000 fruit tree seedlings to support the efforts of the country and benefit the lives of its citizens.

“You could see happiness in the faces of those who received the seedlings,” Honorable Justin Muturi, Speaker of the National Assembly, said following the donation from the Church on February 28, 2022. The initiative is spearheaded by Muturi, who invited Church leaders personally to thank them for their contribution.

Those who took part in the donation included Elder Thierry Mutombo, second counselor in the Africa Central Area Presidency, President George Munene of the Kenya Nairobi West Stake, Elder Blaine Bell from the Church’s Humanitarian Department, Joseph Poche, Service Center Manager, and Evelyn Jepkemei, Kenya Communication Director.
