On 5 May 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints welcomed inter-faith, community, and traditional leaders to the Ghana Kasoa Stake Conference at the Kasoa Stake Center in Walanta.  The theme of the conference was “Making Our Homes Celestial: The role of every family member.”

President Daniel Allotey, of the Kasoa Stake, presided over the conference.  He was joined by his counselors, Derrick Ekow Sam, and Joseph Susu.  President John Kuduo Buah and Sister Augustina Danso Buah, President and Matron of the Accra Ghana Temple, and President K. Erik Jacobsen and Sister Renee Jacobsen, mission leaders in the Accra Ghana West Mission, also participated in the conference.

Imam Alhaji Adam Abubakar, Deputy Chief Imam in Odupong Ofaakor, and Imam Abdul-Azia Ismail Otoo, Secretary to the Council of Imams, represented the Muslim community at the conference.

Representatives of Nai Odupong Awushie Tetteh II, Overlord of Odupong (Kasoa Kurowura), including three local Chiefs, also attended the conference.  They were joined by representatives from the Odupong Ofaakor Zongo Chief’s Office, including Sarki Ibrahim Bukari Torma, the Gada Zongo Chief.

During his remarks, President Allotey noted that repentance is the first step to creating celestial homes.  “We must always improve ourselves, recognizing our shortcomings, to be an example to our children, and to bring our Heavenly Father’s spirit into our homes.”

Sister Patience Adjei, a young woman from the Papaase Group, spoke on the importance of being peacemakers in our homes and communities, and Bishop Komla Dzigbordi Amewuho of the Kasoa 4th Ward said, “We can make our homes celestial by balancing tolerance, truth, and love.”

The distinguished guests and key opinion leaders visiting the conference were impressed with the messages on the importance of families and the need for peace and cooperation in our communities.

“You don’t sow corn and reap casava,” said Alimah Faustina Braimah, Awutu Senya East Municipal Education Director. “Whatever we want from our children we should sow in them.  What we have learned here today is how to build those strong family ties.”

Imam Abdul-Aziz Otoo said, “We are Muslims, and you are Christians, but our common enemy is Satan.  We have learned today that we are on the same page, and together we must chase Satan out from amongst us.”

The Odupong Ofaakor Zongo Community representative noted how wonderful the meeting made them feel. “We felt highly respected from our reception to the end of the program.  The solemn atmosphere of your meeting was quite refreshing.  We are glad that we came.”

Kasoa is located in the Central Region of Ghana, with a population of nearly 400,000.  In this rapidly growing city in West Africa the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has eight congregations.
