Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meet with the Minister of Gender, Family and Children in Kinshasa, in the Democratic Republic of Congo

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a meeting with Her Excellency Madame Léonnie Kandolo, the Minister of Gender, Family, and Children. The discussion in her office revolved around potential cooperation on a project aimed at promoting and stabilizing marriages.

The Minister received the project with open arms and great enthusiasm. She insisted that this project be incorporated into her ministerial duties and implemented nationwide. In light of their discussion, the Minister promptly decided to rename a national program from "Women's House" to "Family House". Speaking on this she stated, "Support needs are not exclusive to women, but extend to all family members."

This meeting provided an opportunity for the Church to invite the esteemed Minister to the interfaith event titled “Bride Price”. The event aims at lowering dowry costs, and commemorating the collective weddings of 100 couples in an effort to promote the practice of officially registering marriages. The Minister’s agreement to participate signifies the commencement of a fruitful collaboration that promises to bring prosperity to numerous families in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
