On 4 May 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held an open house at the Onwe Branch building in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal District in Ghana.  The Onwe Branch is in the newly created Ghana Kumasi Ejisu Stake.  Elder S. Gifford Nielsen, President of the Africa West Area, created the new Stake on 16 March 2024.

The newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency, the Honorable Kwabena Boateng, attended the event along with traditional leaders and other key opinion leaders from the Kumasi area.  They were joined by members of the Onwe branch and many friends from throughout the community.

Nana Kusi Antwi, the Onwe Adontenhene, the local traditional chief, attended the event with his traditional council members.

The guests were led through the various rooms in the building and provided with missionary materials.  MP Boateng was particularly impressed by the missionary’s message regarding the Plan of Salvation.

Representing the Church at the event was President Prosper Mensah of the Ghana Kumasi Ejisu Stake.  He was joined by local leaders of the branch and stake.

At the conclusion of the tour a meeting was held with the local leaders and other guests. In his remarks, the Honorable Kwabena Boateng noted that this was his first official engagement as a newly elected Parliament member.

“I had the opportunity to learn about the foundational beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ, particularly their articles of faith, which forms the bedrock of their principles and values,” the MP noted after the meeting. “It was an enlightening experience that deepened my appreciation for their faith and dedication.

Boateng also learned about the Gathering Place being established in the area. “I commend the Church for their admirable Gathering Place initiative, which is to establish a skill training center within our constituency.  This endeavor holds great promise in addressing the issue of unemployment among our youth and empowering them with valuable skills for the future.”
