Another new Temple in Africa was announced in the 195 annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The conference took place simultaneously across the globe in Salt Lake City in April 2025. 15 New Temples were announced at the conference, bringing the total worldwide to 382.

This temple will be the seventh temple built in the country. The Aba Nigeria temple was dedicated in 2005. Five others are planed to be built in Abuja, Benin City, Calabar, Eket and Lagos. There are more than 250,000 members in Nigeria.
There are currently 29 Temples announced, under construction or dedicated on the African continent and its islands. This announcement will bring the number to 30. This includes Madagascar and Cape Verde.
Only 5 are operating currently in Kinshasa DRC, Aba Nigeria, Johannesburg South Africa, Durban South Africa, and Accra Ghana. The Nairobi Kenya and Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire temples will be dedicated in May 2025. Harare Zimbabwe will happen later in 2025 or early 2026.
The leaders speaking at conference emphasized the importance of temples, encouraging members to attend often and find peace and revelation within their sacred walls, while also highlighting the accelerated building of temples to make blessings more accessible.
