Newly Called Africa West Area Presidency Begins Service

"An Opportunity to Represent the Savior"

The newly called Africa West Area presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Elders Alfred K. Kyungu as president, Adeyinka A. Ojediran as first counsellor, and Isaac K. Morrison as second counsellor, began service in their new callings on August 1st, 2024. Area presidencies are called by the First Presidency of The Church and work under the direction of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. They serve within their area to teach and support Church members, missionaries, leaders, and temple presidents and matrons. The Africa West Area includes 16 countries, and the Africa West Area offices are located in Accra, Ghana.

ELDER ALFRED K. KYUNGU, PRESIDENT OF THE AFRICA WEST AREA

Church Service

Elder Alfred Kyungu was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 3, 2021. At the time of his call, he had been serving as a member of the Third Quorum of the Seventy in the Africa Central Area. He served as a member of the Third Quorum of the Seventy in the Africa Southeast Area from 2011 to 2016. He served at Church headquarters as an area assistant to the North America Central Area and as an Assistant Executive Director in the Temple Department.

Elder Kyungu has served in a number of Church callings, including district executive secretary, district clerk, branch Sunday School president, institute teacher, ward Sunday School teacher, counsellor in a bishopric, high councillor, ward Sunday School president, counsellor in a stake presidency, and president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Mbuji-Mayi Mission from 2016 to 2019.

Professional Life

Elder Kyungu received a bachelor of science degree in social sciences and international relations from the University of Lubumbashi in 1993. In 1996, he received a master of science degree in social sciences and international relations from the University of Lubumbashi. He has worked in several positions for the Democratic Republic of the Congo government, including youth coordinator, private secretary, and administrative councillor. Prior to his call as a mission president, he worked for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as coordinator and regional director for seminaries and institutes. At the time of his call as a General Authority Seventy, he had been working for the Church as a family history manager.

Personal Life

Alfred Kyungu Kibamba was born in Kamina, Democratic Republic of the Congo, on October 31, 1966. He married Lucie Kabulo Malale in 1998. They are the parents of three children.

Regarding his call as area president, Elder Kyungu shared the following:  "Serving as a member of the Area Presidency is a profound trust and responsibility bestowed by the Lord Jesus Christ and the Brethren. Like all Church callings, this assignment is an opportunity to represent the Savior in all that we do, wherever we are. It is a chance to learn, grow, and become true disciples of Jesus Christ. As we know, the significance lies not in where we serve, but in how we fulfill our responsibilities."

ELDER ADEYINKA A. OJEDIRAN, FIRST COUNSELLOR IN THE AREA PRESIDENCY

Church Service

Elder Adeyinka A. Ojediran was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 4, 2020. At the time of his call, he had been serving as an Area Seventy and a member of the Third Quorum of the Seventy in the Africa West Area since March 2012. He served at Church headquarters as the Assistant Executive Director of the Temple Department and as the Second Counsellor of the North America West Area Presidency. He is currently serving in the Africa West Area Presidency.

Elder Ojediran has served in several Church callings, including branch clerk, counsellor in a branch presidency, branch Young Men president, branch president, ward Sunday School president, counsellor in a bishopric, bishop, counsellor in a stake presidency, stake president, and counsellor in a mission presidency.

Professional Life

Elder Ojediran received a bachelor’s degree in botany from the University of Ilorin in 1991. He became an associate chartered accountant in 1996 and a fellow of the institute in 2006. He received a master’s degree in business administration in 2000 and became an associate of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers of Nigeria in 2002. He is also an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He began his career in an accounting firm after graduating from the university and later worked as a finance and administrative manager for three major advertising companies in Nigeria. He then worked as head of strategic planning for Mutual Benefits Assurance PLC before joining Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company as a treasury accountant. He also worked as a senior project accountant, head of budget and financial planning in Nigeria, and finance manager for gas governance in Midstream Sub-Sahara Africa. Prior to his call as a General Authority, he worked as a business finance manager overseeing the non-operated portfolio of Shell.

Personal Life

Adeyinka Ayodeji Ojediran was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, on April 5, 1967. He married Olufunmilayo Omolola Akinbebije on November 14, 1998, and their marriage was sealed in the Johannesburg South Africa Temple on November 14, 2002. They are the parents of one child.

ELDER ISAAC K. MORRISON, SECOND COUNSELLOR IN THE AREA PRESIDENCY

Church Service

Elder Isaac K. Morrison was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 2, 2022. At the time of his call, he had been serving as the president of the Ghana Cape Coast Mission. He served as a member of the Third Quorum of the Seventy in the Africa West Area from 2018 to 2020. He currently serves in the Africa West Area Presidency.

Elder Morrison has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Nigeria Port Harcourt and Nigeria Uyo Mission, Gospel Doctrine teacher, seminary teacher, elders quorum president, counsellor in a bishopric, bishop, counsellor in a stake presidency, stake president, Area Seventy, and mission president.

Professional Live

Elder Morrison received Higher National Diploma (HND) in Building Construction from Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in 2000 and a bachelor of science in operations and project management from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2009. In 2018 he received a master of science in strategic management and leadership from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He worked for the Church in various positions since 2004, including as a Ghana MTC instructor, meetinghouse facilities manager, Accra Ghana temple facilities manager, Africa West Area operations and maintenance manager, and Africa West Area materials management manager. Prior to his call as a mission president, he had been working for the Church Africa West Area leader and member support.

Personal Life

Isaac Kofi Morrison was born in Takoradi, Ghana, on November 25, 1977. He married Hannah Nyarko in 2004. They are the parents of three children, one of whom is deceased.
