On Saturday 27th May 2023, the Primary from the Abuja Wuse Stake in Nigeria celebrated International Children’s Day by holding a Sporting Activity at the Stake Center in Wuse. All 11 units in the Stake participated.
The aim of the activity was to celebrate the Holiday by focusing on physical fitness, one of the important aspects of the Children and Youth Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The program helps children set goals in four core areas: spiritual, social, intellectual, and physical.

“We wanted to help the children understand the importance of taking care of their bodies,” said Sister Happiness Okoyeocha, Primary President in the Wuse Stake. “It was important for them to understand that you can do that and have lots of fun at the same time.”
Activities included warm up exercises, march pass, and short meter races for all ages. There were activities for all classes. Sunbeam, CTR, and Valiant classes participated with children from other Wards in their Stake and were able to fellowship while having fun with new friends. The highlights of the activity were the sack races and tug of war.
“This was also a great opportunity for our unit Primary leaders to learn about the programs of the Church and how to implement them in their own wards,” Sister Okoyeocha said.
Children's Day is an international holiday that was first established in Nigeria in 1964. The date it is celebrated varies between different countries. The day marks a celebration of children raising awareness for issues that affect children and helping us appreciate that they are the future of our societies.
