Representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Invited to Attend Kenyan National Prayer Breakfast for the First Time

Elder Mutombo and other Church leaders attend 22nd Annual Kenyan National Prayer Breakfast

On 28 May, 2025 the 22nd annual Kenyan National Prayer Breakfast was held at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.  His Excellency Dr. Wiliam Samoei Ruto, President of Kenya, presided at the event attending with First Lady H.E Rachel Ruto.  Also in attendance was Deputy President H.E Kithure Kindiki and His spouse Joyce Njagi-Kithure. National Assembly Speaker Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, and Senate Speaker Hon. Amason Kingi as well as Cabinet Secretaries.

The theme of the breakfast was “Rise and Rebuild with Faith and Steadfast Grace” from Nehemiah 2:17-18.  National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula said, “The Annual Prayer Breakfast is an inter-denominational prayer gathering organized by Members of Parliament, bringing together leaders from across the country and beyond to reflect, pray, and recommit to the values of service and nationhood.”

For the first time since the inception of the event in 2003, leaders from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints were invited to attend the breakfast.  Representing the Church was Africa Central Area President Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, Area Seventy assigned to Kenya, Elder George Munene, and Nairobi West Stake President Peter Ondigo. 

Elder George Munene said that just as a family that prays together stays together, “A country that prays together grows stronger together.  The theme was rise and rebuild. It was liberating seeing the unity that is fostered through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer."
