On Saturday, October 19, 2024, the Ghana Takoradi Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with Essikado Government Hospital and Doctor In Service (DIS) Clinic, organised a free health screening exercise at the Church's stake centre. The initiative was part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when global attention is focused on the importance of early detection and prevention of the disease.
The event was supported by Essikado Hospital. Offering their expertise were health professionals from this hospital, including midwives Wendy Anokye Donkor and Victoria Korkor Tetteh Lamptey, both members of the Church. They were joined by colleagues, midwives Linda Ansah and Sarah Bonku, who provided critical services throughout the day.
During the screening, attendees were educated on the importance of regular breast self-examinations and early detection of breast cancer. Wendy Anokye Donkor emphasised that both men and women should prioritise self-exams, as early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes. The healthcare professionals also directed participants to local facilities offering mammogram services, providing information on the procedure's cost. They recommended that individuals aged 45 and above should have a mammogram at least once a year.
DIS Clinic, fulfilling its corporate social responsibility, voluntarily offered its services to Church members during the event. The clinic's team, led by Acting Administrator and Accounts Officer Michael Agyarko, included Nurse Edward Ephraim and Lab Scientist Emmanuel Arthur. The health screenings covered a wide range of tests including breast physical examinations and vital signs checks such as blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) calculations, blood sugar levels, and malaria testing.

This health screening exercise not only served to promote health awareness but also showcased the ongoing partnership between Takoradi Stake, Essikado Hospital, and DIS Clinic, all working together to improve the well-being of the community.
