At a handover ceremony conducted on 30 May, 2025, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints formalized the donation of 1000 mattresses to Ghanan’s National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to assist in the relief of flood victims who recently lost their homes and property.

NADMO, in its efforts to assist those affected, requested help from charitable organizations in the community, including The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In response, the Church provided 1000 mattresses, which had been identified as key among the immediate needs of those affected.
Just prior to the handover ceremony, in a private meeting with Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, Director General of NADMO, Elder Isaac K. Morrison, General Authority Seventy and Second Counselor in the Africa West Area Presidency explained the Church’s motivation for participating in this humanitarian effort.

“We have a relationship with NADMO. Since COVID, in 2020, we’ve done a lot of collaborative projects with you. We know the good that you do in the society. As a Church, we just follow the example of Jesus Christ to love God and to love our neighbors.” He continued saying that the donation was intended to show that love to the people of Ghana and especially to the flood victims, with a hope that it would help relieve their suffering.
Dr. Kuyon acknowledged that this was not the first time the Church had responded to requests for aid, and he expressed his profound gratitude to the Church saying, “when we were crying, you came. I think anytime you hear us crying, you come. That is what Christ would want us to do.”
During the public handover ceremony, which was covered by the local media, Dr. Kuyon told the audience that “we want to show our gratitude to the Church for coming to stand by us in times of grief and stress.” He praised the Church for its ongoing support of the poor and needy, then urged the many local organizations that could have come forward to help those in need to follow the example of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Elder Morrison acknowledged that the mattresses wouldn’t solve all the problems the flood victims were experiencing, but hoped that the donation and the Church’s expression of love towards them would alleviate some of their suffering and would reassure them that they were not forgotten or alone.
