The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated relief supplies to Ghana's National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on July 8, 2026, to support people affected by recent flooding.
The donation follows episodes of torrential rainfall that affected parts of the Greater Accra Region and other areas, leaving devastating floods in their wake. The floods resulted in the tragic loss of lives, widespread damage to homes, businesses, and public infrastructure, and the displacement of thousands of individuals and families.
June 2026 recorded 593.2 millimetres of rainfall—the highest monthly total since rainfall records began in 1995. On June 29, Ghana also experienced record-breaking daily rainfall of 169.2 millimetres, the fourth-highest daily rainfall recorded during the same period. The severe weather claimed at least 12 lives across multiple regions.
Download PhotoIn response to the disaster, NADMO appealed for support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Church provided the following relief supplies:
- 5,000 student mattresses
- 5,000 mosquito nets
- 5,000 blankets
- 2,000 bags of rice
- 2,000 bags of sachet water
- 1,000 boxes of cooking oil
- 1,000 bags of toilet rolls
- 500 boxes of canned fish
- 200 boxes of sanitary pads
- 200 boxes of baby diapers
- 100 large bags of maize
- 100 large bags of gari
The donated items are expected to benefit flood-affected communities in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, Wassa Amenfi East in the Western Region, and Dosukorpe in the Anloga District of the Volta Region.

During the public handover ceremony, which was covered by local media, Elder Adeyinka A. Ojediran, General Authority Seventy and First Counselor in the Africa West Area Presidency, explained the Church's motivation for participating in the humanitarian effort.
“For us as a Church, this is a commitment on our part to follow Jesus Christ’s teaching that we should love our neighbors and should be there for one another. This is one way to practice our religion. We cannot see people in need and fail to support them.”
Beyond providing emergency relief, Elder Ojediran also emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship, encouraging the responsible disposal of waste to help prevent similar disasters in the future.
Receiving the donation on behalf of NADMO, Director-General Major (Rtd.) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon expressed appreciation for the Church's generous contribution and its continued support for disaster response efforts.
He described the Church as one of NADMO's longstanding humanitarian partners and commended its consistent commitment to assisting vulnerable communities across Ghana.
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been a consistent partner in supporting Ghana's disaster management efforts. This is not the first time they have come forward to assist communities in need. Their compassion and commitment to humanitarian service continue to make a meaningful difference," Dr. Bikanyi Kuyon said.
“In times of emergencies, effective response requires collaboration among government institutions, partners and communities. We appreciate the Church’s willingness to support and for responding swiftly to the needs of people affected by these unprecedented floods,” he added.
This is not the first collaboration between the Church and NADMO. In May 2025, the Church donated 1,000 mattresses to support flood relief efforts. The Church has also partnered with NADMO on several humanitarian initiatives since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020.
