On 3 August 2023, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 450 dual desks for school children and 50 tables and chairs for teachers, to the Bandaman Islamic Primary School in Banda, Ghana. A ceremony at the school brought together church and community leaders, as well as the school’s students, to celebrate the donation.

Representing the Church was President Emmanuel Kwame Lesonu, first counsellor in the Ghana Techiman District Presidency. “The Lord’s Church is here to show love,” he said in his remarks. “The Church is following the words and actions of the Savior, visit the hungry, clothe the naked, and shelter the homeless.” Elder and Sister Dunn, Church humanitarian missionaries were also present at the event.
The Primary School is part of the Banda District Education Directorate. Michael Bruce Ennin, the District Director of Education, noted in his remarks that, “Classroom furniture and classroom blocks are the major concern of our Directorate.” He expressed his gratitude to the Church for this timely intervention. He also cautioned school authorities by saying, “Please protect, keep and maintain this furniture to show gratitude to our donors.”
The guest of honor at the donation ceremony was District Chief Executive, the Honorable Emmanuel Akone. In his remarks, he promised to personally monitor the proper maintenance of the furniture. He shared his gratitude for the donations noting, “I am very surprised to see a Christian church offering such an amazing gift to the students at an Islamic School. These are very unique people indeed.”
At the conclusion of the event, the students of the Bandaman Islamic Primary School were given the opportunity to thank the Church's representatives for the donation to their school.
The Banda district is one of 12 districts in the Bono Region, Ghana. It is made up of 35 smaller settlements and has a total population of about 25,000. It is part of the Ghana Techiman District of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This District covers a large area in the Bono, and Bono East Regions of Ghana. There are currently 4 branches and 507 members in the District.
