The Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo meets Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On May 23, 2025, Elder Ulisses Soares, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with Elder Thierry Mutombo, the president of the Central Africa Area, visited with His Excellency Mr. Anatole Collinet Makosso, the Prime Minister and Head of Government of the Republic of Congo.

Elder Ulisses Soares has previously visited the Republic of Congo. During this meeting with the Prime Minister, he expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister's willingness to receive him and his delegation and for authorizing the construction of a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Republic of Congo. He emphasized the significance of having a temple and the blessings it would bring to the country.

The Church is currently collaborating with the government of the Republic of Congo on several humanitarian projects. These projects focus on education, providing clean water, and training various medical professionals, among other initiatives. This partnership aims to demonstrate love and support the government's efforts in the Republic of Congo. Elder Ulisses Soares has requested the formation of a committee that can work alongside the Church to enhance these humanitarian efforts.

During his speech, the Prime Minister praised the support of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He asked the Church to continue praying for his country and to provide assistance to the Congolese government in two key areas:

  • Sanitation and
  • Food security

Elder Ulisses Soares expressed his desire if his agenda permits to welcome the Prime Minister at the Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, where he could explore the Church’s self-reliance and education program.
