The miracle of technology allowed students from Africa to raise their voices in songs of praise to be heard in far off Rexburg, Idaho. A choir made up of Pathway students from Ghana provided a special musical number at the Brigham Young University-Idaho Devotional on Tuesday, April 25, in the BYU-Idaho Center.

The 50-voice choir from Accra, Ghana, sang “The Lord Is My Shepherd” in a livestreaming performance prior to former Primary General President Sister Rosemary M. Wixom’s devotional address.
Victoria Blay, an alto from the choir said, “I am much excited. This is an opportunity for Africa to be elevated…a chance for us to spread a Gospel message around the world. This wonderful Church is all over the world, not just in the West. This brings me great happiness.”
The choir was formed in 2013, in conjunction with the BYU-Idaho Collegiate Singers’ visit to Ghana. In preparation for the 2013 tour, the Collegiate Singers invited Pathway students to prepare a few songs to perform for their concert. As a result of that experience, the Pathway students have continued to sing together.
BYU Pathway Choir conductor, Erastus Acolaste remarked “It is an honor for us to share the Gospel through singing. Even though we cannot be there in person, friends from around the world living in Rexburg, can still feel the message of joy and peace through our voices.”
This is the first time BYU-Idaho will host a BYU-Pathway Worldwide performance during a devotional. A team from BYU-Idaho’s A/V Productions traveled to Ghana to make this possible. Bret Barton, Video Director/Coordinator, shared how different this experience was for all who participated.
"These students have worked hard,” Brother Barton said. “Circumstances are much different from Rexburg. These kids have really sacrificed to sing tonight. No professionals have trained them. They sang in a church with a busy highway out front. It is oppressively hot and most traveled for an hour or more by “Tro tro” to get here. They will not get home till after midnight. In spite of this, they are filled with the Spirit. You can feel their happiness and joy”.
