On July 28 and 29, 2024, Utah Global Diplomacy delegates from Africa visited Church leaders in Utah, where they had a heartfelt conversation about violence against women. The members of this group participating in this visit represented 16 different countries around Africa and a variety of organizations that advocate for women’s rights and safety.
After touring the Church Conference Center, the delegates met with Sister J. Anette Dennis, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The visit was filled with both shocking accounts and tender moments as they shared their personal stories, highlighting the pervasive challenges they face and their determined efforts to combat them. Sister J. Anette Dennis responded with sensitivity, and compassion, and provided them with helpful counsel about ministering. Her guidance was not only inspiring but also offered actionable steps to help support and uplift those affected by violence. The delegates were grateful for the discussion and left many reluctant to part.
The delegates from Africa, in collaboration with Utah Global Diplomacy, are dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the critical issue of gender-based violence. Through sharing personal experiences and collaborative efforts, they seek to bring about meaningful change and provide essential support to those affected. Their commitment focuses on unity and compassion in the fight to end violence against women.
