Church Members Bring Christmas Joy to Abandoned Children with Disabilities in Kinshasa, DR Congo

Following the Savior Jesus Christ’s example to Light the World

As part of the Light the World 2023 campaign, the Binza Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints took part in a service activity for the Bondeko Training Center in Camp Luka on December 23, 2023. The center serves 185 abandoned children who suffer from a variety of physical disabilities. Binza is a district of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Members of the Binza Stake donated a large quantity of food supplies (rice, semolina, sugar, bottled water) to the center and prepared and served a meal to the children. The event was rich in emotion. Binza Stake President Didier Mutombo said, "You are children of our Heavenly Father. He loves you just as you are. Do your best and you will make a difference in the world. We love you and you inspire us with your courage. We are happy to be able to light the world with you today.”

Staff at the center expressed their love and appreciation for the Church members who came to donate food and serve the children. This was a very emotional activity that left many of the Church members on the verge of tears.
