    The Church of Jesus Christ Launches French Newsroom for Africa

    ‘These stories, these images will inform and inspire you. They will warm your heart’

      The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently launched a consolidated Africa-wide news website in French. Previously, each French-speaking African country had its own news website. This follows the creation of a popular Africa-wide English news website in September 2021.

      The Africa Newsroom contains new developments about the Church’s humanitarian and educational programs, interfaith outreach, ministry of senior Church leaders, important announcements, and many other current stories about Church events and activities. It is written for both members and friends of the faith. All news releases, photos and other digital assets are available free of use to media organizations.

      In late January 2024, for example, the French Newsroom featured articles on the Church’s donation of equipment to a school for the blind in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, a member-led service project at a hospital in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and a spiritual conference of more than 1,000 young adult members of the Church in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo.

      Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said in September 2023, “Today, the dominant language in the Church is Spanish, not English. I think in the future it may be French because of the number of members of the Church in Africa in French-speaking countries."

      Sean Donnelly, area relations manager for Africa of the Church Communication Department, said, “Following the success of the Africa-wide English Newsroom for the Church, we decided to create a consolidated French language news site for all of Africa. We noticed that many of those visiting the English site were from Francophone countries.”

      “We are telling their story,” Brother Donnelly continued, “the story of growth, the story of faith and miracles. While much of the news will be from the African continent, the site will also include important news from Church headquarters in the French language. These stories, these images will inform and inspire you. They will warm your heart.”
