Elder Thierry K. Mutombo Visits Mully Children’s Family in Kenya

“As disciples of Jesus Christ, we follow his example. Jesus Christ went around doing good, and that’s what we are trying to do every single day.”

In a heartwarming visit, Africa Central Area President Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, accompanied by Area Communication and Publishing Director Claudine Isekusu, Area Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager Phillip Moatlhodi, and Brother Arlin and Sister Arlin-representatives from the Riziki Foundation, visited the Mully Children’s Family (MCF) in Yatta Sub County, Katheka, Machakos County, Nairobi, Kenya.

Founded in 1989 by Dr. Charles M. Mulli, MCF is a registered charitable organization dedicated to providing hope and support to street children, orphans, child-mothers, and other vulnerable individuals. The organization operates 11 locations, housing over 7,800 youth and children, and has rescued more than 30,000 children since its inception. MCF's holistic approach includes both residential and non-residential child protection and development centres, as well as community outreach programs.

Dr. Mulli emphasized the importance of understanding history, having a vision for future generations, and demonstrating resilience in the face of challenges. He stated, “Do not give up on a child in need or on anybody else simply because they are unyielding, difficult, or uncooperative; it is through your example, how you treat them, and the grace of God that will ultimately mold them into productive members of society.”
The visit was inspired by Dr. Mulli's moving story, which was shared by American actor Dennis Haysbert during The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square’s 2024 Christmas concerts. Haysbert, deeply touched by Mulli’s journey from abandonment at age six to becoming a successful businessman and philanthropist, brought the story to life for the audience.

Dr. Mulli thanked the Church for hosting him in Salt Lake City, the strong feeling of the Lord's presence he was able to feel, their good Christian qualities, and the chance to share his story with everyone.
Elder Thierry K. Mutombo expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Mulli’s for their warm hospitality and for graciously hosting them over the weekend. He appreciated the opportunity to spend quality time together and engage in meaningful conversations.

Reflecting on the visit, Elder Thierry K. Mutombo remarked, “As disciples of Jesus Christ, we follow His example. Jesus Christ went around doing good, and that’s what we are trying to do every single day as His disciples. It is a blessing to be here we just want to learn more about you, your family, and your organization.” This visit underscores the ongoing commitment to uplifting and supporting the most vulnerable members of society through compassion, dedication, and faith.
