Nearly 500 young men and young women between the ages of 14 and 18 from three stakes attended the For the Strength of Youth (FSY) conference in Mbuji-Mayi, DR Congo during July 24-28, 2023. The theme for this year’s conference was “I can do all things in Christ” (Philippians 4:13). The conference was held at the Grand Séminaire of Mbuji-Mayi. The youth came from the stakes of Mbuji-Mayi, Dibindi, and Ngandajika.
The program included classes on living the Gospel, preparing for full-time missions, family history, seminary and institute, and self-reliance. The youth spent a great deal of time studying the Scriptures in small discussion groups. The youth enjoyed copious amount of delicious food and a dance competition held near the end of the program.
Elder Ndalamba Ilunga, Area Authority Seventy who presided over with conference with his wife Sister Mufuka Lyliane, expressed his great satisfaction with the conference program centered on helping the youth stay on the covenant path. He said the main objective of FSY is to help the young members of the Church to become “true disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
To the parents, Elder Ilunga said, “thank you for sending your children to this inspired program. This was a choice that you will never regret because it will change their lives.“ Conference organizers Félix and Dorcas Lukusa worked diligently with scores of youth counselors, teachers, leaders, and logistical staff to make this conference a success.
This was the fourth of eight weeklong FSY conferences held in the Africa Central Area during the summer of 2023. Previous FSY conferences were held in Tanzania and Lubumbashi, DR Congo (two sessions). Upcoming conferences will take place in August 2023 in Kinshasa, DR Congo (two sessions), Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, and Kigali, Rwanda.
More than 50 percent of the youth of record are attending FSY. By the end of the summer, close to four thousand youth from the invited stakes and districts in the Africa Central Area are expected to attend.
