Approximately 500 people gathered in the conference room of the Methodist University in Cocody, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, on October 4, 2024, to participate in a conference held on the occasion of the International Day of Cerebral Palsy. Sponsored by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Coeur de Maman Amour d'Enfant, the conference included participants from governmental and other NGOs, including local representatives of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The conference aimed to achieve two specific objectives. The first was to raise awareness among the public about the special needs, both moral and material, of children with cerebral palsy (CP) and of the parents who care for them. The second objective was to help the public, specifically mothers, prevent this disabling condition.
The celebration began with a 500-meter march at the National Institute of Arts and Cultural Actions (INSAAC) and ended at the University. Once everyone was seated, the organizers welcomed all attendees, particularly the invited organizations, including the Church. Sister Foua Bi Nathalie, a consultant for Women's Leadership in West Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, represented the Relief Society. She was accompanied by a delegation of 30 sisters supported by brothers from all the stakes in Abidjan.

The conference was led by panels of specialists discussing issues related to cerebral palsy and preventive measures. Sister Foua Bi Nathalie addressed the assembly from the podium as an invited speaker. She introduced them to the Relief Society of the Church and its objectives before adding, "To the mothers and their children, know that we love you and stand in solidarity with your struggle, as we are women and mothers just like you. Know that Jesus Christ loves you, too. Stay strong. From today onward, we are with you."
Madame Gbahou Marcelle, president of Coeur de Maman Amour d’Enfant, expressed her happiness at the presence of distinguished guests, particularly representatives from the Relief Society, which formed the largest group among the organizations present.
At the conclusion of the conference, attendees who are members of the Church shared their thoughts. Sister Kpolé from the Toit Rouge Stake commented, "This activity helps us understand the pain of others and support them." Bishop Aikpa M. Débrime from the Cocody Ward expressed satisfaction with the conference, stating it allowed him to understand the suffering of parents with children affected by cerebral palsy.
