One important focus of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is to provide relief to those in need while building long-term self-reliance so that individuals can uplift their lives and communities.

In furtherance of this goal the Church recently built a new two-story school building in the town of Busogo, within the Musanze district of Rwanda’s Northern Province; also renovating three classrooms, donating 210 desks and teacher’s chairs, and constructing 12 latrines. In addition to this project, the Church also donated 945 desks to the GS Kagugu School in Kigali, Rwanda

October 3, 2025 was a day of celebration, as the students of GS Busogo School welcomed community, school, and church leaders with beautiful songs as they arrived for the handover ceremony of the newly built facilities.

Community leaders thanked the Church for the tremendous work done to support the country.

Representing the Church at this event was President John Koranteng, of the Rwanda Kigali Mission, who expressed his belief that we are all brothers and sisters, and that this is why the Church helps everyone, regardless of who they are or the denomination they belong to.

One week later, on October 10, 2025, President Koranteng spoke again at another handover event where the Church donated 945 desks to GS Kagugu School in Kagali City.

At this event President Koranteng emphasized that education is the foundation of national development and personal success.  He encouraged students to study hard and make good use of the new desks to prepare themselves to become future leaders, engineers, doctors, and other professionals who will contribute to the nation’s development.

Also in attendance was Mr. Bernard Bayasese, the Mayor of the Gasabo District. Mayor Bayasese addressed the students, reminding them that they are the future mayors and leaders and potential donors of Rwanda. He encouraged them to study hard, make full use of the comfortable new desks, and take good care of them as part of their learning responsibility.

He expressed his sincere gratitude to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their generous contribution, noting that the donation has significantly improved the quality of education at GS Kagugu. He also urged the school’s administration and students to maintain the desks properly as a sign of appreciation for the Church’s support.
