Bujumbura, Burundi, from September 4 to 6, 2025

During his visit to Bujumbura, Burundi on September 4, Elder Thierry K. Mutombo, a General Authority Seventy and the Africa Central Area President, received a warm welcome from Angeline Ndayishimiye, First Lady of Burundi at her foundation's center. This meeting provided an opportunity to revisit the impact of a donation made by the Church in 2022, which included medical equipment intended to improve the capabilities of the foundation’s hospital. The First Lady expressed her heartfelt gratitude for this generous gesture, emphasizing the significant difference the equipment has made in improving the quality of care for those in need. As part of his visit, Elder Mutombo toured the hospital that received the donations.  There, he observed how the medical staff effectively used the equipment and interacted with them regarding its impact on patient care. This experience underscored the Church's commitment to following the Savior’s example by serving others, providing relief to the sick, and supporting institutions that contribute to the well-being of God’s children.

Elder Mutombo was warmly welcomed at the Interreligious Council of Burundi as part of a commitment to promoting mutual understanding and cooperation among different religious denominations. During this meeting, participants engaged in a meaningful exchange centered on shared values, including peace, solidarity, and selfless service to the community. The Council members expressed their gratitude for the Church's humanitarian efforts and their willingness to collaborate on future social and educational initiatives. This moment of unity highlighted the importance of building bridges between faiths in a spirit of unity and of Christian charity, following the example set by Jesus Christ.

Elder Mutombo was received by Nitunga Desire, the Director General in charge of Religious Organizations and NGOs at the Ministry of the Interior. The meeting took place in a spirit of respect and collaboration. The Director General expressed appreciation for the Church's efforts to follow established frameworks while making positive contributions to Burundian society. Elder Mutombo reaffirmed the Church's commitment to respecting government institutions and aligning with national regulations. He paraphrased the Twelfth Article of Faith, stating, "We believe that it is right to respect kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates; to obey them, honor them, and show them consideration." This exchange reinforced a shared commitment to building a relationship founded on trust, service, and mutual respect, benefiting local communities.

The Church aims to bless lives, uplift souls, and bring light and hope to God's children by collaborating with local authorities and supporting institutions that work for the common good. Remaining faithful to the Lord's invitation, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16), the Church carries out its divine mission to reduce suffering and promote peace and human dignity.
