Meet Travis Alexander from Johannesburg, South Africa, an auditor and accountant. He will be joining the Tabernacle Choir this coming April for the worldwide General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as one of 11 Global Participants.

Travis was invited to audition as a guest member of the Tabernacle Choir on Temple Square for the April 2025 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Travis was put through a rigorous audition of singing, vocal exercises testing his range and sightreading. He considers himself a fast learner, which was a great asset during the audition. He was selected.
"This is a lifelong dream," he said, "I never thought it would ever happen, it is out of this world. Music is my passion, I love it."
Travis shared how he has participated in choirs all of his life, starting at age 4 in Church children's choirs and ending up singing in his university flagship choir in Johannesburg. This same choir took him to the World Choral Olympics in Riga, Latvia and then on to the Global Choral Symposium in Spain.
Travis has enjoyed his visit to Salt Lake City, sharing the experience with the other global participants from the four corners of the world.
“We also had the opportunity to be taught about the History of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square by the former conductor, Craig Jessop. It was just amazing to see the origins of the choir and it’s deep history for over 170 years”.
Tavis has his parents and his wife, Kayla, back at home rooting for him. “I am truly grateful for my loving family and for their amazing support, I think they are so proud", he said. Travis has 2 children and other extended family making up his 'fan' club.
Travis considers the Tabernacle Choir to be one of the best in the world. ‘They are very advanced musicians. This will be my first in-person experience with the Choir and I can't wait, no one is a soloist, it is as if one instrument," he said.
