The Young Single Adults (YSA) from Ghana Swedru Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a graduation ceremony for their Gathering Place. Six months of training and learning the necessary skills needed to start a business culminated in a graduation ceremony. The training was free and offered by the Church. Classes taught at the Gathering Place included driving, catering, phone repairs, hair dressing, shoe making, information technology and BYU-Pathway.
Elder Jorg Klebingat, First Counselor in the Africa West Area Presidency presided over the event. The meeting started with prayer and was followed by a cultural dance display. The graduates were happy to share the skills they had learned with those attending the ceremony. Certificates were awarded to the YSA Gathering Place graduates.
Hon. Evans Addison Coleman spoke to the congregation said, “It is a privilege for me to be here. This is the first time I have entered into the premises of this great church. Even though I have known the existence of the church for so many years when I was in the states but have never bothered to dive into their doctrines or even to get close to their beautiful churches. I’ve always admired their buildings from afar. I am really grateful for having this great opportunity to experience it for the first time. I like the environment and I like what has happened over here. As a municipal chief executive, I have been impressed with what the church has been doing for the youth. The skills acquisition trainings that the church does is laudable, and I must thank the leadership of the church.”
The ultimate goal of the YSA Gathering Place is to help them stay on the covenant path, gain meaningful employment and be sealed in the temple to create eternal families.
