Kenya Temple Dedication Announced

Nairobi Temple Open House Scheduled for Public Viewing

Members of The Church in Kenya in East Africa will soon be able to attend the temple in their own country. The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the dates for the Nairobi Temple open house and dedication. Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.  Prior to that, a public open house will allow the general public to tour the temple starting on Tuesday April 17, 2025, and continuing through Saturday, May 3, 2025, excluding Sundays. Local media will be invited on Monday April 14, 2025, and special invited guests will have two days set apart just for them to tour the temple on April 15 and 16.

The Nairobi Temple will be the first temple to be operational in Kenya, and in the entire East Africa Region. It has been eagerly awaited since it was announced by President Thomas S. Monson in April 2017. Currently, members of The Church in the region wishing to attend the temple travel many hours to reach other Temples on the continent. The Nairobi Temple will now serve the growing population of East Africa.

Latter-day Saint temples are considered houses of God, a place of holiness and peace separate from the preoccupations of the world. They provide a place where Church members make formal promises and commitments to God. They are also the place where the highest sacraments of the faith occur — the marriage of couples and the “sealing” of families for eternity.

Temples point Latter-day Saints to Jesus Christ and their eventual life with Him, their Heavenly Father and their family members on the condition of faithfulness to Christ’s teachings.
