“God is using The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a vessel to bless his children in Bugembe.”
These were the remarks of Jinja Stake President, Moses Mbiro, who spoke on behalf of the Church at the handover ceremony for a maternity ward in Uganda. He emphasized the importance of charity amongst all the sons and daughters of God on earth.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided over $ 100,000 towards the construction and equipping of a maternity ward at Bugembe Health Centre. The Bugembe Health Centre is located in Jinja, Northern Division of Jinja City, in Uganda, and serves about 60,000 people. This project was initiated to help women access quality healthcare during pregnancy and childbirth which will significantly help reduce the mortality rate.

The church donated 12 recovery beds, 4 neonatal beds, 12 hospital mattresses,9 drip stands, a ward and a theatre trolley, one 23-liter autoclave, a delivery bed, 2 ward screens, a nebulizer, a Litman stethoscope,3 pulse-oximeters, 1 fetal doppler, 1 phototherapy machine, 4 oxygen cylinder heads,1 infant incubator, a patient monitor, an infant warmer, 2 oxygen concentrators, an obstetric ultrasound machine and constructed a maternity ward to help serve the entire Bugembe community.
The handover ceremony was well attended by the community led by the area Member of Parliament Honorable Isabirye David Aga, Jinja City Mayor Kasolo Peter, LC Vice Chairperson Bugweri: Hon. Muziransa Shari and the Deputy Mayor Northern Division: Ms. Suzan. The Church had the following representatives at the event: Area Physical Facility Manager: Johnny Baddoo, Area Self Reliance Manager: Dennis Mukasa, FM Manager Uganda & Rwanda: Jimmy Okot, Jinja Stake President: Mbiro Moses, Bishop Ssekimuli Abubaker, Bishop Cyprian, Bishop Wadunde, Bishop Komubi, and Elder and Sister Bird from the Latter-Day Saints Charities.
President Mbiro extended an invitation to the members of the community, and the staff of Bugembe Health Centre to properly use and maintain both the building and the equipment, for them to experience better health services not just fir now but also in the long term.
