Church Members in Lubumbashi DR Congo Light the World by Serving Those in Need

Following Jesus Christ’s example of showing love for others.

The Ruashi Stake and Kasumbalesa District of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints carried out humanitarian service projects at a military hospital, orphanage, and health clinic in December 2023 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo. These projects were in connection with the Light the World program.

In mid-December several members of the Ruashi Stake expressed their love and charity for others by donating blood at the Inaza Military Hospital in Ruashi Township. A week later, the members of the stake visited and donated much needed supplies to the orphans in the “Tumaini” Center (which means “hope”) also located in Ruashi.

Raphaël Kazadi, president of the Ruashi Stake, invited the leadership of the orphanage to continue to help the children who are all our brothers and sisters. He also briefly introduced the basic beliefs of the Church and distributed several copies of the Book of Mormon. Then he presented the following items to the orphanage:

  • 8 mattresses, sheets, and bedspreads
  • 20 bags of flour
  • 2 cans of vegetable oil
  • 1 can of palm oil
  • 3 bags of rice
  • 20 kg of sugar
  • 4 sachets of 900g of salt
  • 4 kg of soya
  • Donated clothing

The Kasumbalesa District launched its Light the World activity on December 22, 2023 at the Kasumbalesa Health Clinic under the leadership of district first councilor Brother Juma. District members carried out the work which consisted of donating and installing a new metal gate and rebuilding the supporting brick wall.

In addition, they refurbished several walls of the clinic. The members expressed thanks to the Lord for this opportunity to help the thousands of souls who use this medical facility.
