The Church Supports Medical Education with New College Building in Kinshasa, DR Congo

“Our hope is that this gift will benefit not only the current community but also future generations.”

On March 6, 2025, in Kinshasa, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially handed over a newly constructed building to the Institut Supérieur des Techniques Médicales (ISTM), a college of medical technics. The facility features a ground floor and an upper floor, including two auditoriums with a capacity of 250 people each, six air-conditioned offices, 14 restrooms, 100 benches, and the rehabilitation of a digital room.

Through a request made by the Fonds de Promotion de l’Éducation et de la Formation (FPEF), an organization that promote education and training, the Church, through its humanitarian services, financed this initiative. The Vodacom Foundation equipped the digital room with 50 chairs and tables, computers, and provided a free internet connection for one year.

Professor Joséphine Ntumba, General Director of ISTM, expressed her deep gratitude to the Church and the Vodacom Foundation for their precious donation. "This act of generosity reflects God's love; this new building represents a significant step towards establishing a leading research school," she stated. "As a result, all ISTMs in the Democratic Republic of Congo will be able to send students here to pursue their advanced studies."

Mrs. Patricia Katshiabala, President of the Vodacom Foundation, expressed appreciation of the partnership between the Vodacom Foundation and the Church, highlighting its impact on thousands of people. “ISTM/Kinshasa has over 9,000 students, with 75% of them being women. In honor of Women's Month, we want to remind everyone that when a woman gains access to knowledge, an entire community benefits.”

Mr. Guy Wembo, the General Director of FPEF, described the partnership with the Church in response to the government's request to construct a new building at ISTM. He stated, “We owe our gratitude to this partnership, which enables us to consider this architectural project. Its construction and realization deserve our praise.”

Elie Kalala Twikala, the Public Relations Manager for the Africa Central Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, urged the community to take care of the gift made possible by the generous contributions of Church members. “Our hope is that this gift will benefit not only the current community but also future generations,” he said.

The Deputy Director of the Minister's Cabinet inaugurated the project on behalf of the Minister of Higher and University Education.
